Who are we?

DCBC was planted in September 1998 by Mutley Baptist Church. With a current membership of 50 we are now classed as a medium sized church, but we are still relatively young and still growing.

Our congregation is made up of old and young and our services combine traditional and new songs. There is a friendly, informal atmosphere and everyone is welcome.

We meet in a community hall (The Welcome Hall) where there is disabled access. The teaching is Bible focused and relevant and there are various children's groups during the service; refreshments are served after the service. During the week there are regular prayer meetings and housegroups and a Christianity Explored and or Alpha courses are available when required.

The church, up until recently, was led by Rev. Nathan Fisher who died in May 2010 after a long battle with cancer. DCBC is now being led by three Elders with the help of a moderator, six Deacons and a Pastoral care team. We are Reformed in theology, Baptist in ecclesiology polity, and Charismatic in our affections.

Under Christ and his Word the congregation is the final authority in church governance led by Elders who oversee and teach the people.

We practice and teach believer's baptism. And we are committed to pursue all the fullness of God with use of his spiritual gifts in the life of the church.

The most urgent need of the church today is to be clear about the Gospel. Not because we believe the Gospel is ultimate in and of itself - God alone is ultimate. However, the Gospel is the thing that reveals everything we need to know about God and His will for our lives.

As long as we are vague on the Gospel we will be smitten by an uncompelling picture of God, a less than adequate knowledge of His will for the Church, our individual lives, and a skewed view of our role in the culture. In short we cannot help but become helplessly enmeshed in idolatry.
