I thought it would be good to give you an update on how the week went!
So here we go:
Tuesday – arrival day, good to meet the team and get them all settled in
Wednesday – in the morning we went for a Treasurer hunt around Devonport – which gave the team a great introduction to Devonport and allowed them to find their way around independently. In the evening some of the team went to the Lifehouse to lead a service – which, as a result, one of the residents asked to be Baptised. While the rest of the team went to the Devonport Live Cafe for the first ever Youth Cafe. While they did not get any local faces, it was a good first attempt.
Thursday – some of the team went down to the waterfront to get the word out about the Youth Cafe, while the rest of the team led a service at Devonport Views with Ruth Sayers. They made a real impact while they were there and were asked to come back! In the evening we had a our second youth cafe, this time with some locals, our aim is to build on the contacts to make Youth Cafe a regular event.
Friday – Yarn Bombing Day! The team learnt to make pom poms and bunting, after lunch at the Welcome Hall at their Friday Lunch Club, they then headed down to Marlborough Street to give the street some colour, they also did some weeding and planting while they were there.
Saturday – was the team’s day off so we went to the beach, swam in the sea and ate Ice Cream
Sunday – all the team took part in the service in some way, whether that was doing PA, a testimony, prayer, music, reading scripture or helping set the room up.
We then went back to 22 for a very damp BBQ
Monday – we painted a Mural at 22, did more Yarn Bombing and popped into Devonport Views again. In the evening while the men ate chips with the Monday Men’s big feast group, the girls prayer walked around Devonport.
Tuesday – final push! We went and helped face paint at the Lugger Pub’s fun day. Only a few people escaped without being painted.
All in all a great week the team were well fed most days by a the team from the Life House, and in the end three of the team decided they would like to get baptised, so what a great week for Devonport and Broadway!
